RHODOCHROSITE - Rosinca - Inca Rose - Manganese Spar - Raspberry Spar

Chemical Composition:  MnCO3

Crystal System:  Trigonal     Hardness:  3.5 - 4

Habit:  Includes the rhombohedrons and scalahedrons with rounded faces that can obscure the crystal shape; also botryoidal,
globular, stalactitic, layered and granular

Colour:  Red to pink; raspberry-peachy-pink shades of colour, which is variegated and in bands of different shades of peachy-pink

Rhodochrosite received its name from the Greek for rose collared, but has been known also as ‘Rosinca’ or ‘Inca rose’. 
In a massive form its pink and white bands are extremely attractive and are often used in semi-precious jewellery. 
Rhodochrosite is often carved into figurines and tubular stalactitic forms are sliced into circles with concentric
bands that are truly unique in the mineral kingdom.
Manganese spar is another name associated with rhodochrosite. 
The material may be likened in its banding, but not colour,
to malachite.  Occasionally very fine quality crystals are found that are transparent; these are usually cut into
faceted stones and they have the strongest energy of the peach-rose-pink ray. 
It is often used with malachite in crystal therapy, where it produces positive results not only in the right use of power,
but in this combination it brings in the energy of compassion, so that a greater understanding of the energy of
Divine will-power is fully manifested.
Rhodochrosite is not the gentle loving energy of the rose quartz pink ray but is the active energy of Divine love
in action of the peach-pink ray.  It facilitates the energy of compassion, but not pity. 
It does not encourage the sympathetic use of the pink ray, but rather the dynamic use of the peach-pink ray, whereby a greater understanding of the need to learn through the emotions is fully comprehended. 
Mankind has a great capacity to learn through the emotions; this has been clearly demonstrated in the twentieth century,
where the use of instant communication or global news has moved whole nations as a single soul to end war, famine or disease and brings in the energy whereby the aggressive and destructive behaviour of others can no longer be hidden or tolerated. 
It is the energy of the enlightened reformer, as has been witnessed so many times this century when we have seen Live Aid,
the release of Nelson Mandela, the end of the Vietnam war and the demise of the Iron Curtain. 
Its message is: let’s change the world with enlightened love, as we can no longer tolerate the massive abuse of the solar plexus chakra by the few who manipulate, control and exploit the masses. 
Rhodochrosite helps ease trauma and clears traumatic events from the heart, solar plexus and sacral chakras. 
It clears old pains, hurts and memories and will purify the base chakra, sacral chakra, solar plexus chakra and heart chakra. 
It will restore Divine balance to these areas.  Rhodochrosite balances the energies of the heart and reproduction system.

ROSE QUARTZ AND ASTERISED ROSE QUARTZ (See Quartz)

Colour:  Pale pink to deep pink

KEYWORD:  LOVE

Rose quartz is one of the most pleasantly seductive varieties of quartz. 
The pink to rose red colour is caused by titanium and iron. 
Rose quartz is usually too cloudy or pale to be used as a cut gemstone, although a few exceptional pieces are found with enough clarity and colour to make fine gems.  Most gemmy rose quartz is used as cabochons, where the clarity is not as important as the depth of colour. 
Rose quartz is also a very attractive ornamental stone and is carved into popular spheres, pyramids, healing wands and obelisks.
Rose quartz is found in Brazil, Madagascar, India and several localities in the USA. 
Brazil is also the only source of true well-formed crystals of rose quartz. 
All rose quartz was believed to be only massive,
found primarily in the cores of pegmatites. 
This lack of crystals is somewhat of a mystery, because quartz crystallizes into well-formed crystals in all its other macroscopic varieties. 
So amazing are the crystals of rose quartz that the first ones discovered were dismissed as ‘fakes’ by mineralogists from around the world.
If needles of rutile are included in the rose quartz, then a star effect or asterism is sometimes present. 
These stars are most visible when light is viewed through the rose quartz. 
This is different from asterisms in other gemstones,
such as ruby and sapphire, where the stars are seen when light is shown on the gems.
Rose quartz transmits a soft love energy, which is soothing and calming to the emotions.
The vibration or resonance signature of rose quartz is good if a person has been assaulted in any way. 
It is wonderful to use in mid-life crisis when dissolution of old patterns and reassessment is imperative. 
The paler the rose quartz goes colourwise, the wider, higher and deeper the love vibration extends. 
The very pale natural rose is highly tuned and sensitive; it carries the promise of spiritual fulfilment.

Rose quartz is very good for children, the newborn and those yet to be born. 
It is also ideal for those who are giving birth to their inner child or any new venture; the red within the pink activates the energy, while the white spiritualises the endeavour.

Ruby is the fabulous gemstone for those born in the month of July. 
Ruby is the superb scarlet variety of corundum, the second hardest natural mineral known. 
The non-red variety of corundum is sapphire. 
Sapphires are well known as being blue, but they can be nearly any colour. 
The red colour in ruby is caused by trace amounts of the element chromium.
The word red is derived from the Latin for ruby, rubeus, which is derived from similar words in Sanskrit, Hebrew and Persian. 
The intensity of colour of a fine ruby is like a glowing coal, probably the most intensely collared substance our ancestors ever saw.
Rubies come from all over the world. 
Ruby has been the world’s most valued gemstone for thousands of years. 
Ruby was said to be the most precious of the twelve stones God created when he created all things and this “lord of gems”
was placed on Aaron’s neck by God’s command.  The Bible says that wisdom is “more precious than rubies”.
In the ancient language of Sanskrit, ruby is called ratnaraj or “king of precious stones” and ratnanayaka, “leader of precious stones”. 
In fact, rubies are today still more valuable and scarce than even the top quality colourless diamonds. 
It is no wonder they ascribed magical powers to these inner fires’ that burned eternally. 
The ancient gemological teachings of the East place ruby under the influence of the Sun. 
To be completely efficient though they should be free from all impurities, fissures and flaws.
Ruby sometimes displays a three-ray, six-pointed star. 
These amazing star rubies are cut in a smooth domed cabochon to display the effect. 
The star is best visible when illuminated with a single light source: it moves across the stone as the light moves. 
This effect, called asterism, is caused by light reflecting off tiny rutile needles, called “silk,” which are oriented along the crystal faces. 
The ruby mines of Myanmar are older than history: Stone Age and Bronze Age mining tools have been found in the mining area of Mogok.
Ruby instils in the wearer a passion for life, truth, courage, wisdom and perseverance. 
It introduces dynamic leadership qualities. 
It emits the energy of cheerfulness and creativity. 
Ruby is for the pioneers, those who must go first, bravely into uncharted territory. 
Ruby is raw power, drive and will power.
Ruby works primarily on the genitals and reproductive organs. 
The glands of the body connected to ruby are the gonads and ovaries. 
Ruby also prompts the release of adrenaline into the bloodstream when there is danger, aggression or pain. 
The blood and the circulation are a focus of the ruby vibration. 
Muscles, which give the power to act, are also governed by ruby and of course the deep red ray is seen as raw life force, so ruby rules the blood and helps with anaemia; also it will warm the body when it is chilled and they can be used to counteract hypothermia.
Rubies have been worn in the navels of belly dancers and have been used to stimulate sexual power and potency. 
The signature of ruby is growth at any cost and it can be too powerful for some sensitive souls. 
You really have to understand the resonance of rubies to be completely comfortable in their vibrational field. 
If someone is stressed and irritated, avoid ruby completely, as it will inflame the condition.
The bright red scarlet, crimson and flame are clean, pure, pristine forms of ruby; when used spiritually,
it is devotion that transfigures Divine love into Divine will. 
Ruby will stimulate the heart chakra when consciously directed, raising, then transforming the raw power
of the base chakra into devotion, piety, adoration, worship, reverence and enlightened religious zeal.
Ruby works very well with those who have a strong ‘spiritual devotional’ energy to the ‘ultimate liberation’
of the human race from suffering and ignorance into enlightenment.
Ruby is the gemstone of the Cosmic Christ energy.

SAPPHIRE - Corundum - Padparadscha

Colour:  Various shades of blue; pink; yellow; lemon; white; lavender; grey; orange-pink; purple

Blue sapphire is the birthstone for September.  Sapphire is often considered to be synonymous with the colour blue: you can easily imagine sapphire seas. 
However, sapphire is beautiful beyond blue, in every colour but red, because red is called ruby.
The other colours of sapphire can be just as beautiful and rare - or even rarer - than the blue. 
The most valuable other fancy sapphire is an orange-pink or pinkish-orange called “padparadscha” after the sacred lotus blossom. 
Padparadscha sapphires are extremely rare.  Other very popular shades of ‘fancy’ sapphires are yellows, bright oranges,
lavenders and purples, and a bluish-green colour. 
Generally, the more clear and vivid the colour, the more valuable the sapphire. 
Historically, blue sapphire has always been associated with true love and purity; it represents the heavens and Angels. 
Sapphire gets its name from the Sanskrit word Sani (Saturn).

Blue Sapphire

Blue sapphire encourages you to reach for the stars, for high spiritual attainment. 
It can release you from emotional bondage. 
Wearing, carrying or using blue sapphire makes you a seeker of truth. 
It works primarily on the throat chakra, also the thyroid and parathyroid glands. 
Its energy vibration also covers the upper lungs and arms and even extends to the base of the skull. 
It counteracts the psychological problems of speaking in public, of speaking your truth.
Blue sapphire is a great teacher of Universal Truths and the power of the spoken word.

Yellow Sapphire

Emotionally it clears low self-esteem.  It also stimulates the lymphatic system.

Pink Sapphire

Pink sapphire is magnetic: it draws and attracts that which you need into your life, so lessons can be learnt quickly. 
It teaches you mastery of your emotions. 
It gets rid of emotional hang-ups and aids the digestion by allowing the integration of cosmic affection. 
It is the stone of universal harmony and cosmic love.

Purple Sapphire

Purple sapphire works on the pineal gland and the top of the head, the crown, the brain, the scalp and the crown chakra.  It is used to calm down those who are emotionally erratic. 
It is useful for any kind of internal inflammation. 
It is also good for subduing heart palpitations and the pain of neuralgia.
Purple sapphire carries the energies of idealism and the enlightened reformer. 
It encourages and helps you master the energy of perfection in all things. 
It contains the spirit of mercy and works with the highest levels of thought - it also aids visionary abilities and psychic perception on an everyday basis.

White Sapphire

White sapphire is pure and pristine: it is the great spiritual opener.

Green Sapphire

SELENITE - Gypsum - Satin Spar - Alabaster

Chemical Composition:  CaSO4-2(H2O)

Crystal System:  Monoclinic     Hardness:  2

Habit:  Tabular; bladed or blocky crystals with a slanted parallelogram outline;
long thin crystals; massive; fibrous

Colour:  Usually white, colourless or grey, but can also be shades of red, brown and yellow

KEYWORD:  REMEMBERING

Gypsum is a hydrous calcium sulphate, when well crystallised producing excellent transparent monoclinic crystals, which are often twinned in swallow-tail forms. 
Such crystals of gypsum are called selenite, for the crystals tend to show moon-like iridescence from the cleavage surfaces.
It is usually formed by the evaporation of an enclosed sea basin, or may be deposited from desert lakes. 
The massive rock-like variety of alabaster was known from the days of the Phoenicians, Assyrians and Egyptians, who made it into all kinds of beautiful vases and amphorae, and who were also the first to find out and use its splendour as a medium of direct and indirect lighting. 
The delicately wrought alabaster vases that were found in the tomb of Tutankhamen were used to illuminate the temples in the land of the Pharaohs.
Since it forms easily from saline water, gypsum can have many inclusions of other minerals and even trapped bubbles of air and water. 
The word selenite comes from the Greek for moon and means moon rock.
Selenite is a stone of communication and communion with the past and present; this includes communication with our guides and Angels. 
It aids telepathic links with others and contains all sacred knowledge;
it often has the appearance of sacred markings on its surfaces to remind us of this fact.
It is used for the remembering of past lives and will help dream and meditation recall. 
Selenite works by recording information pertaining to all knowledge of all time; this is held within its crystalline structure via its formation by water and evaporation.
The theory goes that nothing can be dis-created, only changed. 
The water that was on the planet at its formation and the same water
that nurtured the early forms of life is the same water the dinosaur drank, which is the same water the ancient peoples drank and it is constantly circulated around the planet by the rainfall and evaporation. 
So the water that is in you and me has been in everyone and everything. 
The water sustains and records all the life it touches; nothing on the planet can live without water.
To access the information accumulated by the selenite, you hold your piece of selenite in your hand of preference and ask the Deva, Angel, Spirit or Guardian of the selenite to access the information contained within its structure. 
You then allow yourself to be open to the subtle thoughts, feelings and emotions that begin to flow through you. 
When truly connected you should get impressions and insights. 
Remember, these have to register on different levels of your being. 
Some people experience them through feelings; others experience them as knowledge, or pictures. 
There is no right or wrong way. 
When you go into a meditative state in this way you will experience the information first at the cellular level, then at the feeling level, then eventually on the mental level. 
So you would probably take a minimum of three sessions to work with a specific crystal, to extract its information into the level of onsciousness in which you know it, not just feel it or sense it.
Selenite brings light and healing to every cell in the body. 
It is a very high vibration stone and crown chakra activator. 
It will heal all fluid functions of the body.

Siberian Blue Quartz is one of the emerging class of stones that is the result of the hybrid energies of man and the mineral world. 
It has been laboratory grown specifically for linking the third eye to the mental body, which initiates advanced psychic abilities
and facilitates a clearer interpretation of the information received.

SUGILITE - Royal Azel - Luvulite - New Age Stone

Colour:  Purple; lilac; lavender, sometimes with black inclusions

Sugilite is a very distinctive opaque waxy purple stone. 
It comes from the Southern states of Africa and Japan. 
It was discovered in 1944 in Japan by Dr Kenichi Sugi, for whom it was named. 
It is found in association with manganese and is often streaked with black or bluish lines. 
Sugilite is the third eye activator; it works on the pineal gland, the top of the head, the crown and heart chakras, as well as the brain and scalp. 
Sugilite has a potent mature Universal Consciousness. 
It is very matriarchal and nurturing; it does seem to ‘mother’ the ‘Star Children’,
giving them feelings of security and protection against the harsh climate of the
negative earth vibration of hostility, rage, anger and fear.
